An important Swedish baroque bed.

An important Swedish Giltwood and painted state bed in the manner of Burchard Precht

This is a beautiful Baroque bed that I had the privilege of owning and using for some time. The bed would date in the mid 18th. century and originally came from Steninge Palace just north of Stockholm, Sweden.

Steninge Castle, Sweden, Ryder Antiques

One of the families that owned Steninge was the Von Fersen family. Through his close relationship with the French and Swedish royal families, Axel Von  Fersen became internationally known for his love and relationship with Marie Antoinette and also for his tragic death in 1810.

In October of 2007 I sent the bed back to Sweden to be sold at auction and it was sold in December . It was purchased by a Swedish museum and is currently on display in a castle in Sweden. I am happy to say that I did well on the sale but equally happy that the bed returns to its home where it will be cared for and cherished.
