Description

627. 18th century fraktur -type water color. At the bottom are two lines of German script. The fraktur type was found in Berks county, Pennsylvania, at an estate sale between the pages of a 1787 Book of Psalms. It is on an early wove paper, wove paper was firstly developed in 1780. It has a crease across the middle which suggest it was folded and put in the family bible. The frame is old but not original to the water color. Lines at the bottom reads: “Lieber w ohnen ganz allein , als der(?) ergeben ein”. Translate “I’d rather be alone, than be devoted to (?).” Watercolor is 2 11/16in by 4 1/2in. (8cm by 11 1/2cm).
