French Coat Of Arms

Description

683. French coat of arms from the late 19th century. The coat of arms is mounted on a blue board which helps to high lite it. The inscription reads “Valeneiennes a bien merit de la patrie”. This is most likely wrong as some letters are hard to decipher. Reads “Valenciennes is proud of his country”. Vilenciennes is located in north west Normandy, France. The coat of arms contains two swans(?) on either side and a lion topped off with a crown. The composition of the crest I would say it is plaster/stone. There is some damage but nothing to take the charm away. H. 30 in., W. 23 in (76 cm by 58cm).
