English Stage Coach

Description

19th century folk art stage coach with four horses and figures.
Coach door inscribed” Hereford, Worchester,London”.Mounted
on a wooden base.Near 1850 the locomotive made its appreance leaving the stage coach
no longer a means of travel.It would take days with the occasional
pit stop and to change the horses.The full paying passengers sat inside the stage
coach while the less payers sat on the top.
The man at the back of the coach with the horn
was to guard the mail and to blow his horn to let the pay toll attendants know
that the mail stage coach was coming and to raise the gates.
There has been some restoration otherwise in good condition.A very unusual
folk art piece.
